Past weekend, our club turned into a true squash festival as we hosted the most important tournament of the season, the Estonian Squash Championships, for the very first time! Estonia’s 24 best male and 8 fierce female players gathered to battle it out and determine who would take home the next championship title.
It was also a historic moment, as the championship finals had never before been played on a glass court! We are incredibly proud to have made history with this milestone! 🎉
🏆 Men
The first day was filled with excitement: Paul Piik and Kristjan Pettai confidently advanced from Groups A and B. However, the biggest surprise of the day came in a thrilling five-game battle between Walter Heerold Veedla and Jaanus Pettai, where Walter snatched the deciding game 11-7, sending the crowd into a frenzy!
Other groups were just as intense, with Martin Etverk, Henrik Kurm, Silver Saia, Kaarel Simm, and Andri Talts all securing their spots in the higher rounds, proving that the competition was fierce.
While Paul Piik cruised into the final without dropping a single game, Walter had to fight a real battle against the reigning Estonian champion, Kristjan Pettai, to earn his spot. The result? A 3-1 victory for Walter!
In the final, Paul Piik once again showed why he is a living squash legend, securing his 11th Estonian Championship title! 🏆
Paul’s comment:
“I think that since the new club (yolosquash) offers excellent training conditions, the right squash form for the competition came almost naturally. When you enjoy your training, it’s much easier to achieve results. Specifically, the ability to calmly prepare for each match helped me a lot in winning the tournament. It allowed me to mentally tune in step by step, and by the time the final came, I was already in the right mindset. I just had to hold on to that feeling with everything I had. In the final moments of the game, when the win was within reach, excitement started to take over, but I managed to suppress the grin and played with a cool head all the way to the end.”
By the way, if you want to train with him too, he’s one of our group training coaches – don’t miss the chance! 😉
🏆Women
In the women’s competition, the favorites Aliis Allas and Reele Komi made it to the final. Reele started strong and snatched the first game, but Aliis didn’t let that shake her – she switched gears and put her title defense on solid ground! Once again, Estonian champion! That’s now a total of 8 titles in her hands!
In the third-place match, Laura-Liisa Lillemets, who trains in Prague, showcased her international experience and secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Mari-Liis Stalde.
Congratulations to all the winners! 🎉
What an epic squash weekend – thrilling matches and historic moments! If you want to be part of this energy, come give squash a try – who knows, maybe you’ll be the next Estonian champion?
See you on the court!
