Yolo Squash, the most modern squash club in the Baltics, has opened in Tallinn’s T1 centre.
\nThe club of more than 750 m\u00b2 offers unique playing facilities on seven courts, including the only glass court in the Baltics, which ensures an exceptional playing experience and allows spectators to enjoy the game at a whole new level.
\nThe opening event was full of exciting presentations, surprise guests and exhibition matches.<\/p>\n
The opening speech was given by the President of the Estonian Olympic Committee, Urmas S\u00f5\u00f5rumaa, who expressed his delight that squash has been chosen as the Olympic sport for 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. “Squash is an all-encompassing and seemingly easy to start and become part of a beautiful sport, but as proffessional sport it is a dynamic, intense and exceptionally demanding sport that offers players both physical and mental challenges. Now that squash has become an Olympic sport, athletes have a unique opportunity to represent Estonia at an international level. I invite you to play squash and become the next Olympic athlete.” encouraged S\u00f5\u00f5rumaa.<\/p>\n
“A new modern squash club will delight the sport’s enthusiasts and bring them to the T1 Centre.
\nWe are delighted to be working with Yolo Squash, which perfectly complements the range of sports clubs on the third floor of T1. The number of clubs and different activities is now over fifteen and will continue to grow in the coming months, even though it will only be a year since the reopening of the new floor in mid-September,” said Tarmo H\u00f5be, CEO of the T1 Centre.<\/p>\n
The opening of Yolo Squash aims to promote a sport that is gaining popularity in Estonia. “The aim of the club is to raise awareness of squash, expand the community and help sports enthusiasts discover a new way to enrich their active lifestyle. We encourage everyone to try squash – it’s healthy, fun and fast,” said Maarja P\u00e4rt, Yolo Group board member.<\/p>\n
“Squash is considered to be one of the world’s healthiest sports, which is confirmed by numerous studies,” said Mari-Liis Stalde, CEO of Yolo Squash. “For example, in a study by Forbes magazine, squash rose to the top of the list due to its high caloric expenditure, cardiovascular benefits, and total body muscle training. The game helps improve endurance, muscle strength and coordination. Squash is ideal for two players as well as for larger groups, such as corporate team events, providing both an effective workout and an entertaining competitive moment,” added Stalde.<\/p>\n
Alongside the pros, coaches Sandra Raju and Katrena Tenno, who started playing squash from scratch just two weeks before the club opened, also had a demonstration match on the opening night.
\nTheir performance proved that squash is for everyone. “I thought at first that getting to the court with the racquet and the court would be more challenging, but it was quite the opposite – I’m very surprised how quickly Katrena and I got playing. I think the sport is suitable for players of all ages and levels. However, the intensity of the game is higher than in badminton – you have to run more and hit more difficult balls to your opponent,” explained Raju. Tenno added: “Squash is the ideal sport for those who want a maximum full-body workout in a short time.”<\/p>\n
